I’m always in the mindset of being prepared for anything that can occur on a daily basis. I always do little things like keep an extra shirt in my car, carry extra cash and keep a portable USB charger nearby. There are some people who want to be over-prepared for catastrophic situations and keep a week’s worth of food rations in their car, but I’m not that kind of person. I just like to know that I am prepared for normal daily obstacles and minor annoyances.
Because of this, I carry a Swiss Army Knife – specifically the Victorinox Rambler. This little guy is just like the standard tiny keychain pocket knife except it also has a Phillips head screwdriver tool.
I’ve been surprised on how many times this little tool has come in handy on a regular basis. There have been times where I needed to help coworkers mount their computer monitors in their cubicles when there were no tools around and I’ve been able to do the job with the little flat-head and Phillips head screwdrivers. Or when I’m in the car and I notice a thread randomly coming off the sleeve on my shirt, the scissors are right there to get rid of that minor annoyance.
It’s a great little tool to have on standby at all times and it’s small enough to carry on your keychain. I’d suggest that anyone gets this tool regardless of your work or home environment. I’m usually in an office environment and I have found that the Victorinox Rambler has saved the day on multiple occasions.
Keep in mind that if you’re going to be traveling by plane or visiting an establishment that does not allow sharp metal objects, you will have to leave it at home.
