I challenged myself at the beginning of April to post a photo every day of the month on my Instagram account. The purpose of this challenge was so that I could learn the basics of photography such as composition, lighting and framing. By pushing myself to take more photographs, I could learn faster and could make my photography better.
There was a small catch to this challenge – I was only allowing myself to use my cell phone to take these photographs. Even though I own a Canon 7D and could probably take much more appealing pictures with it, I felt it would be much easier to shoot and edit with my Samsung Galaxy S4.

During this entire challenge, I missed three days and two of the pictures I took were not taken with my phone. One picture was taken with my Canon 7D and another was taken with my Canon PowerShot ELPH 110 HS. Overall, I feel like I did much better than I expected of myself. I didn’t think I would make it more than a week through this personal challenge. I found myself actively looking for opportunities to take photos and I really enjoy that feeling. I’m pretty proud of my accomplishment this month.
On a side note: Due to this little challenge, I have noticed that people have been approaching me to ask me about my photography. I’ve since been hired to do three photo shoots, so I’m overjoyed. I’m not a professional yet, but these opportunities will definitely help me on my journey.
I may do this challenge again in the future with my Canon 7D and use Photoshop CS6 to edit, instead of just my Samsung Galaxy S4 and the editing app Snapseed.
